In Japan the DC2 this vehicle was releases as DC2 Honda Integra Type R. A regional variant is known in North America as the Acura Integra Type R (DC2) and Acura RSX Type-S (DC5). In the rest of the world the RSX (DC5) is still called Integra.

The DC2 Type R comes standard with a 195hp 1.8L DOHC VTEC engine, known as the B18C5 or just B18C-R with 200 hp in Japan. Equipped with a close ratio 5 speed manual transmission with LSD, the DC2 Integra Type R handles and performs true to its race bred heritage. In developing the first generation Integra Type R, Honda engineers concentrated on extracting maximum performance from all aspects of the car. This involved strengthening the chassis (with extra spot welds), minimising weight (no sound insulation, thinner windscreen, lighter wheels & exhaust), extracting more power (intake and exhaust ports were hand polished!) and of course suspension upgrades. The result was an astonishingly capable FWD sports coupe which revved strongly to 8400rpm and was acclaimed by motoring journalists worldwide. Enthusiasts rejoiced as there had never been a car so dedicated to performance and priced within reach of the general public. This is the only Honda Type R that was released by Honda in the U.S. Standard equipment included sports suspension, a front lip spoiler, a rear spoiler, alloy wheels, Recaro seats, and a titanium shift knob.

The 1995-1997 DC2 Type R came with a 4.40 final drive, the 1998-2000 DC2 Type R came with a 4.78 final drive. The DC5 Type R (Japan market only) comes standard with a 220hp 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC 4 cylinder engine. The "i" in i-VTEC stands for intelligent VTEC, which employs VTC (Variable Timing Control) to advance or retard the timing a full 50 degrees. The Integra Type R comes equipped with tight fitting Recaro seats, a close ratio 6 speed manual transmission with LSD, and a race inspired suspension. The Honda Type R engines are considered to be one of the most powerful naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engines in the world.
